An Historic Pipe Organ

Trinity Las Américas United Methodist Church is home to the oldest pipe organ in Polk County, Iowa.
In 1911, a small 17 rank pipe organ was installed upon completion of the Trinity UMC building. The organ was built by John Hinners of Illinois and is listed on the National Register for Historic Places.  As of the Cornerstone Restoration Project in 2014, the organ was in its original condition.

Repairs were undertaken from through 2018, with fundraising led by Rev. Chet Guinn (1928 - 2025).  Chet loved the Trinity organ and was an advocate for historic preservation.

The organ in its current state is not playable. To honor Chet's commitment to preserving the TLA organ, we are resuming contributions to restore the organ.

Following restoration work almost ten years ago, TLA celebrated with holiday concerts.

In 2018, a legendary Iowa organist played to a full house.

In 2019, Dr. Miriam Zach of Iowa State University played and accompanied baritone soloist Nolan Brown.  â€‹

Organ Restoration Project 2025-26

TLA has signed a letter of intent with Dobson Pipe Organ Builders in Lake City, Iowa to begin restoration work the fall of 2026.  We'll add a detailed brochure to this space in December 2025.

The goal is to raise $90,000.  We would be grateful for your contributions—large or small. Please access the GIVE page on this website for ways to contribute, and note "Organ Project" in your contributions.
